Redeemer Castro Valley exists to learn from Jesus (discipleship), become like Jesus (sanctification), in order to proclaim Jesus (mission). To encompass all three of these goals, we’ve adopted these six pursuits:
We believe that the whole of history is driven by the story of God’s plan to reconcile all things to himself in Jesus (Colossians 1:20). Every time we gather, we seek to reorient our lives as individuals and a community around this story as we participate in God’s plan to Redeem the world through the work of his Son Jesus.
From the first Passover to the Upper Room to the Wedding feast of the Lamb, we see the meal as a primary means of communicating God’s saving purposes to His people. We believe that eating together is essential for bringing us together and inviting others into our community of faith.
The world around us is broken. Some elements of brokenness are apparent - homelessness, mental health struggles, broken families, etc. Others are invisible - slavery to wealth, pride, and idolatry. We believe that the church is God’s primary instrument of healing in the world for both secret and apparent brokenness.
We live in a culture that lacks “embodiment”. We are isolated and disconnected from one another, but we were created to be in community. We were made to be together. The church is God’s answer for the lonely and isolated lives we lead–a real family made of real people who love each other and their neighbors.
Our lives are overly complicated. We are stretched thin, worn out, and tired. Our hearts long for something simple. The church is the solution. A community devoted to God’s word, prayer, fellowship, generosity, and hospitality–all because of what Jesus has done for us.
Redeemer Church stands in agreement with the historic creeds of the early church like The Apostle’s Creed and the Nicene Creed. We affirm the Gospel Coalition’s confessional statement. We also hold in high regard many reformation era confessions, including the London Baptist Confession of 1689 and the Westminster Confession of Faith.
